Voting for the World Series Poker.
This is the first time that World Series of Poker has resorted to an online voting system for the selection of the competing players. WSOP has released the names of the current top 20 players in the popularity contest. The maximum number of votes in that contest will decide the winners, those who will get to compete at the WSOP tournament. 50 players constantly get highlighted on the poker series website and now there is the additional mention of all those names of the players, on the website as it stands.
The list prepared by the poker series committee is missing out on few of the world class players. Jerry Yang one of the top players at the main event fails to make it to the top 50 list. Carlos Mortensen who must have been in the top 10 list is being missed heavily.
Below are few players who made it to TOP 20
On comparing the list to the top 50 as seen on the poker series website, as of on 19th April 2010, it becomes obvious to recognize all the missing names.
Some other players that may miss out from competing in the World Series event due to lesser votes are, Annette Obrestad, Jason Mercier, Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond, David Benyamine, six-time bracelet winner Layne Flack, Jeff Lisandro, Erick Lindgren and Eli Elezra.
WSOP has confirmed that they have received 25000 votes till date and counting. So if you want to get your favorite player competing at the event, just head towards the site and cast your vote.
The preparation for the expected turnout at this year's World Series of poker has already begun at Las Vegas, Nevada. This gambling competition has become one of the top events in gambling since the past few years. The reason for such a sudden increment in its popularity is owed to the media coverage that it gets, and the entire tournament is streamed live across round the world.
The 2010 gambling tournament will be held in Rio from 27th May and will continue all the way up to 17th of July. This year it is the 41st tournament that is being held at the World Poker Series. Numerous events will conduct at the tournament; one of them is the 57 gold bracelet gambling event. 27 Players will get to compete at the event. They would be battling it out against each other at the number of gambling matches to surge as the final winner at the tournament.
One of the most exciting events at the world series of poker is the 'tournament of champions'. In this event the former winners of the poker series compete in a gambling free roll game. The cash prize for the winner is a whooping $1 million. The only criterion to be able to participate in this tournament is that the former winners need to have their bracelets. Unlike most other gamblers who compete with the intention of making money, there are some like Marty Smyth; who gambles for a charitably noble cause. He donated a huge amount, the he won in the gambling tournament, at the Royal Belfast Hospital for children and also at our lady church in Ireland.
As Mr. Marty Smyth has taken an oath for towards charity, it is sure that he will not be missing out this year's World Series tournament. He was awarded the golden bracelet at the Omaha world championship that was held back in 2008.
Phil Ivey, Phil Helmuth, Eli Elezra Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson and David Skylansky are the other gold bracelet winners. They will also be competing at this year's championship.

Collegopoly or is it Monopoly?
Will Lusby from Ottawa (CN) will be competing in 'College-Opoly', a largest monopoly tournament in the Ottawa Valley on Saturday, March 6 at the Pembroke Armoury. Canada's best Monopoly player is also coming to Pembroke to aid Algonquin College raise money for the proposed Renaissance Square campus.
The tournament will feature up to eight teams competing for the right to take on Mr. Lusby who last year became the Canadian Monopoly King, when he defeated 47 of the best Monopoly players in Canada at the nationals in Montreal. He will hold the title for the next four years.
Mr Lusby speaking at the campus during the kick-off ceremony said "Every game is different and anything is possible when you play Monopoly, I'm sure there will be stiff competition at the Pembroke tournament and I look forward to the challenge."
Monopoly has been a popular game since it was first introduced during the year 1935. Today, it is the most popular of all board games in the world and is estimated that 750 million have played Monopoly. Lusby said he first got interested in playing as a youngster, however, he realized it was competitive when he saw an advertisement for a major Monopoly tournament at the Eaton's Centre. Competitive Monopoly is slightly different as properties are sold quicker and rents are paid faster. So games can wrap up in almost half hour.
"At home, you know everyone you are playing with. On the circuit it's pretty competitive but there is camaraderie," explained Mr. Lusby. "Everyone's there to win but you're also there to have a good time."
The registration fee for the tournament is $5,000 for a team of four and includes the opportunity to win prizes. It also includes winning the team's registration fee back if one player from any of the teams beats the Monopoly Champion and two other players at the final table during the championship game.
Other prizes include a private gourmet meal for 10 at the campus served by the college's Cook Apprenticeship program.
College-Opoly begins with a marquee match at 5 p.m. where players will be invited to learn the rules and strategies of tournament Monopoly under Mr. Lusby. The actual tournament commences at 7 p.m. with each player competing against players from opposing teams. At the end of the 75-minute game, points will be calculated for each player using the standard Monopoly point system.
After the final summing up of points, the top three teams with their highest number of points will then choose a team representative who will participate in the championship game with the Canadian Monopoly champion. ‘Mr. Lusby does have one piece of free advice to his challengers:
"Don't be afraid to take risks and make trades," he said. "The game is all about trading."
The admission to the tournament for the general folks is $15 and includes complimentary food and the chance to play friendly
